If you missed the introduction to our newest blog series, you’re definitely missing out. We started our interviews with Joe Crandall, the CEO of Greencastle, where he told us about his biggest failures, leadership lessons and even some great books to read.
Today, we’ve got 5 minutes with Amy Sanchez, our Senior Consultant, change management rockstar and Beyonce aficionado.
Amy is Greencastle’s most energetic employee by a long shot. She’s everyone’s hype woman, knows a thing or two about executing change management in large organizations and is even building her own house with her wonderful husband Matt. Learn a little bit more about her and how to start your day off the Sanchez way.
If you could be remembered for one thing, what would it be?
I would want to be remembered for how I made others feel. Hopefully I made others feel listened to, valued, or just help them laugh when they need it. I feel lucky to have people in my life that always make me feel better when I’m not feeling my best and I hope that I can be that for others. Even if its in passing, working together on a project, in my friendships, or even if I order a coffee from someone… I just want to be someone who was known to make others feel better when they needed it.
If you could go back and give your 18-year-old self one piece of advice, what would it be?
Oh wow, 18 year old Amy- You are good enough! Like many other 18 year olds, I never felt adequate, always striving to be something else, something better. I wish I could tell myself that I was valuable exactly as I was. My constant desire to improve fueled me and motivated me, I was always striving for improvement which was a benefit. But the negative self-talk that accompanied my accomplishments wasn’t helpful. I’ve learned so much since then and still am hungry and eager to learn and grow- but I’ve learned to be much kinder to myself as I continue to progress.
What does your typical morning routine look like?
I’ve recently revamped my morning routine. I’ve been waking up at 6, making the bed, changing into workout clothes and working out. After my workout if the weather is nice, I’ll take my dog Harper on a morning walk while listening to an audiobook and that’s been so great! I’ve been meal prepping on the weekends so after my workout I warm up my breakfast then shower and get ready for the day. Having structure to my day is so important to me and kicking off the morning with bang sets me up for success for the rest of the day.
What Enneagram type are you?
I am Enneagram type 1. I just took the personality test to respond to this and read my results and WOW do I feel exposed.
Here is a small synopsis of the personality report I received:
Ones are defined by their belief that everything must be in order, and by their feeling that they must always be in the “right.” They show great commitment and determination to improve conditions that they find need improvement, and they are forward in encouraging others to improve their performance, too. At their core, Ones are the “model children” of the Enneagram world—dutiful, responsible and perfection-seeking. At the same time, they are idealists, in the sense that they believe they know exactly how to perfect the world and they wonder why others do not see it.
What’s a common myth about your job and area of expertise? What’s the truth about it?
I feel like some people view change management as a bunch of deliverables and trackers you fill out to help manage and facilitate change in an organization. But really, I think the heart of change management is understanding people, their concerns and fears and helping ease those worries so they can see themselves thriving in the future state. It’s a combination of an art and science but at it’s core it’s listening to people and letting them be heard so they can feel they are ready for and collaborated for the change that’s about to take place.
What are 3 podcasts you’d recommend and why?
-I really love the Huberman Lab podcast. Andrew Huberman is a brilliant scientist who makes complex scientific theories and findings accessible and easily digestible to curious individuals who might not work in that field.
-I really loved the Serial Podcasts. This was one of the first podcasts I listened to in 2014 and was hooked by Adnan Syed’s case and trial for the tragic murder of Hae Min Lee. It was the first time I was really grabbed by a podcast and since they have done additional podcast series about Bowe Bergdahl and another called S-Town. I haven’t listened to all of them available, but they are riveting and it was the first time I couldn’t stop listening to a podcast.
-I also recommend a podcast that makes you laugh. I have a few that I listen to in order to turn my brain off and just enjoy. Everyone’s choices will be different, but I recommend you search around for one that you can listen to and feel like you’re hanging with friends. I listen to a few comedians and event satirical podcasts that help me laugh and unwind.
