Read on to hear his top vacation pick and a podcast recommendation or two!
What was the best vacation you ever took and why?
I spent 9 days in Sicily in 2009 with my Infantry Lieutenant Crew while stationed in Germany. We had an amazing time. Everything we ate was delicious, all the seafood caught that day. The people were very friendly and didn’t mind my medium Italian skills. Sicily is a place where you don’t have to pick “beach or mountains,” because the mountains come right down to the beach. It’s a beautiful island with beautiful architecture and amazing food and people.
Would you say you’re more of an extrovert or introvert?
I would definitely call myself an extrovert. As long as I can remember, I’ve always been one. At the risk of sounding cliché, it’s just how I am, it comes naturally.
What books/podcasts are you reading/listening to right now?
I’m reading Thomas Fuller’s The Historie of the Holy Warre, a history of the Crusades written in 1639. I am also reading, simultaneously, The Devil’s Hand by Jack Carr. For podcasts, I jump around a lot but some history podcasts I’ve been listening to are Dan Davis History, Kings & Generals, and Sand Rhoman History, all on YouTube.
What’s one thing that can instantly make your day better?
I know the question asked for one, but I’m going to give two answers here. The first is a good lift at the gym. The second would be hearing my daughter tell me she loves me.
What energizes you about your career?
I love being a leader and mentoring and developing my team members. I was fortunate to become a team leader after just over a year here at Greencastle. I’m now moving over to run our internal PMO. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to run projects that help train future leaders in the company and this industry. It’s an awesome opportunity to extend my leadership past the teams I manage directly.
Outside of my time here at Greencastle, I’m also finishing up a separate career with the National Guard after two company commands and several other leadership roles. As my time serving comes to an end, I’m looking into starting up a social group centered on self-sufficiency.
What’s your go-to weeknight meal?
Reverse-seared grass-fed ribeye, with caramelized onions and sauteed broccoli on the side. Grass-fed is important to me. I strongly believe in regenerative agriculture, and I only eat meat that is raised ethically and with their natural choice of feed.
