Today we are spending ‘5 Minutes With…’ Whitney Millin and reading her answers might just be the best five minutes of your day!
Whitney is an associate business intelligence consultant by day but there’s way more to her than her love of data. When she’s not visiting the client site (yes, she recently wore steel-toe boots to a client site to better understand her role) she’s spending time in the mountains skiing or biking. And the mountains are literally out her back door!
She leads a life full of adventures and new experiences. Keep reading to learn more about Whitney and be sure to ask her about her recent experience with a family of bears!
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Chile. They have incredible mountains with endless possibilities for adventure. The mountains rise from the edge of the ocean into these massive granite walls. It’s breathtaking. The people there too all seem to have this insatiable appetite for wilderness wondering. I resonate with their energy and find the place beautiful.
If you could have a super-power, what would it be?
Immortality. One life just doesn’t seem enough to do and see all the wonders the world has to offer. If I could live forever, I think I would travel the world seeking the most interesting aspects of life both big and small. I would take up many trades and attempt to master them all. The joy of learning and re-learning over many lives would thrill me.
What do you do for fun on the weekends?
I go to the mountains to mountain bike, ski, or backpack. There is no greater feeling than reaching the summit of a mountain and knowing you brought yourself to that location with your own energy and effort. The changing seasons of the mountains always brings a flood of emotions too. The anticipation of mountain flowers in the summer, the crisp air come fall, and the chilly calm white in winter brings ebb and flow to my years during all my activities outside.
What was the best part of 2023 so far?
Receiving and accepting a role at Greencastle Consulting. Since coming to Greencastle, my work life balance seems much more in balance. The work is fantastic, engaging, and interesting. I enjoy working alongside clients to solve their most pressing issues. It is incredibly rewarding to see their success and help them grow. Plus my co-workers at Greencastle are unrivaled. The support and fun we have really makes the work day energetic.
What advice would you give a recent college graduate?
Curate your career. Worry less about the ‘proper’ steps to take for your career. Instead, take time to explore what type of work you really enjoy doing then tailor your career towards those findings. The time spent exploring will pay dividends for you and your work environment when you commit to work that you find purpose in or provides a lifestyle of your own choosing.
What’s are you watching on TV now?
I’m old school. If I’m watching TV it’s likely reruns of Big Bang Theory. I find entertainment in nostalgia and the predictability helps me relax.
