Finding Strength On and Off the Clock

By Greencastle Consulting

At Greencastle Consulting, we know that success isn’t just about what happens at work – it’s also about the passions our employees have outside of it. Our team members bring the same level of dedication to their personal goals as they do to executing strategy for our clients.

We recently caught up with Matthew Nalls, a Junior Consultant whose journey with strength training and deadlifting mirrors the resilience and discipline we value at Greencastle. He shares how his fitness goals, military experience, and career have shaped his mindset, and how the support he’s found at Greencastle has helped him push his limits in and out of the gym.

Q: What drew you to deadlifting, and what has the journey been like?

A: My passion for deadlifting didn’t happen overnight. The journey has been filled with challenges—days when the weight felt impossible, when my body ached, and when progress seemed slow, but those setbacks only fueled my drive. I set a goal to achieve a 600-pound deadlift, a number that once felt out of reach. Through years of training, overcoming injuries, and staying committed despite setbacks, I finally reached that milestone. It wasn’t just about the number—it was about perseverance and resilience.

Q: You’ve described the gym as more than just a place to lift weights. What does it mean to you personally?
A: For me, the gym is where I test my limits, build resilience, and find balance in life. It’s a space that pushes me physically and mentally, teaching me discipline and patience. Among all the lifts, the deadlift stands out—it’s raw strength, pure effort, and focus all at once.

Q: How has GAC supported your personal fitness goals?

A: One of the biggest factors in my ability to reach this goal has been the work/life balance I’ve found at Greencastle. Having a workplace that values well-being and understands the importance of personal passions has been instrumental. Greencastle’s flexibility allows me to finish a productive workday and still have the time and energy to train, refine my technique, and push my limits. It’s rare to find a company that recognizes employees as individuals beyond their job titles, but Greencastle does exactly that.

Q: How did your time in the Marines shape your approach to training and work?

A: My military experience taught me discipline, resilience, and the importance of preparation—principles that apply both in the gym and at work. The mental toughness developed through training directly translates into my professional life. Just like in the gym, there are days at work when tasks feel overwhelming, deadlines loom large, and motivation is hard to find. Despite that, the same mindset applies: show up, put in the work, and tackle challenges head-on.

Q: What advice would you give to others trying to balance personal passions with a demanding career?

A: It’s possible to excel in your career while pursuing personal goals. It comes down to discipline, support, and having a clear vision. I’ve found an environment that encourages both personal and professional growth. Whether you’re lifting weights or tackling business challenges, the key is to be consistent, push through setbacks, and never back down from a challenge. My journey is far from over, and I’m excited to see where both my career and my training take me next.

Q: Any final thoughts for those looking to push their limits?

A: Whether in the gym or at work, progress isn’t linear, and setbacks are part of the process. What matters is how you respond to them. With the right mindset and support, you can achieve anything. I hope my journey inspires others to pursue their passions, find balance, and push themselves to new heights.
