5 Minutes with Jacob Wiley, Associate Consultant

By Greencastle Consulting

Great hair? Check. Killer project manager? Check. Best designer of ugly Christmas sweaters? Also check.

Jacob came to Greencastle and was immediately put on a project and didn’t just survive–he thrived. If that’s any indication of the type of person Jacob is, I don’t know what is. Jacob has a lot of character–he was able to articulate answers to his questions in an almost poetic fashion.

And yes, Jacob is an expert at ugly Christmas sweaters. Back in December, he showed up to our Happy Hour (which was also an ugly sweater contest) and took the competition by storm. He even had christmas lights on his sweater. So I guess we can also add creative to the list of things Jacob is.

Keep reading to learn more about him and his kitschy taste in music (we bet you’ve never heard of his favorite bands before).

What was your favorite age growing up and why?

My favorite age growing up was undoubtedly the adventurous age of 12. Looking back today this self-discovery process was enlightening and exciting. I was all about embracing my quirks and individuality without worrying too much about what others thought. It was a time when my curiosity was insatiable, and I was delving into books on everything from ancient civilizations to cutting-edge technology. It marked the beginning of my lifelong quest for knowledge and ignited my passion for exploring diverse subjects. Also, who doesn’t love a time where they didn’t pay bills.

If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

If I had to choose one food to savor for a lifetime, it would unquestionably be sushi. The delicate balance of flavors, the artistry in presentation, and the cultural significance behind each piece never cease to amaze me. Every bite is a journey into both culinary excellence and a rich history, making it the perfect companion for a lifetime of gastro-exploration.

What’s one thing that can instantly make your day better?

The sight of a vibrant sunset or the soothing sound of ocean waves crashing against the shore can instantly elevate my day. Nature’s awe-inspiring beauty serves as a powerful reminder of the wonders that exist beyond our daily routines, allowing me to reconnect with the world around me and find solace in its timeless rhythms. If you hear seagulls in the background of our next meeting, just know that I am at peace with the day and providing the most value added to the product at hand.

What underrated tools are indispensable for your job?

In my pursuit of excellence in my profession, I’ve come to rely on some underrated yet indispensable tools. One such gem is the Pomodoro Technique, which has transformed my productivity by breaking my work into focused intervals, enhancing both efficiency and creativity. Additionally, mind-mapping software has proven invaluable in organizing complex ideas and fostering innovative thinking.

What do you do on your commute to and from work?

During my daily commute to and from work, I immerse myself in a world of audio wonder. Audiobooks, podcasts, and occasionally listening to my emo, rock, and metal playlist are my travel companions, transforming any mundane commute into an opportunity for intellectual growth and personal enrichment. Another key point to consider is that, given how many populated regions are burdened with older infrastructure that does not adequately support the population’s highway needs, I often find myself exploring local coffee shops early in the morning before traffic sets in. Incorporating a coffee shop visit into my morning routine adds an element of anticipation and excitement. It becomes a cherished ritual, signaling the start of my day and allowing me to mentally prepare for the tasks ahead. This enriching ritual transforms idle moments into a voyage of discovery.

Name 3 of your favorite bands and songs and why people should listen

Among my never-ending list of favorite bands, This Wild Life has the ability to evoke genuine emotions, making each song a deeply personal experience through their lyrics. Their lyrics are poignant and relatable, often touching on themes of love, loss, and personal growth. Their storytelling invites reflection on my own experiences and offers solace in shared emotions. Another incredible band is The Midnight. Their music transports me to the neon-soaked landscapes of the ’80s, inducing feelings of nostalgia and longing. Last but not least is Yellowcard, whose fusion of punk rock and pop-punk with a violinist creates a dynamic and instantly recognizable sound. This unique combination sets them apart and adds a fresh dimension to their music. Each band offers a distinctive musical experience marked by emotional depth, creativity, and the ability to transport listeners to different emotional landscapes. Their music is an invitation to explore diverse emotions and embark on a journey of self-discovery and connection.
