Validating Cloud Contact Center Resilience Through Disaster Recovery Testing
A major utility provider needed to validate disaster recovery readiness for its cloud contact center platform and supporting integrations. Greencastle led the end-to-end failover and failback test, coordinating IT, business, vendor, and contact center stakeholders across a complex technology environment. The team developed the runbook, managed execution sequencing, facilitated real-time issue resolution, and validated platform functionality across telephony, authentication, customer systems, reporting, workforce tools, APIs, and end-user channels. The test successfully confirmed that core operations, including call handling and customer interactions, remained functional during failover and failback, with only minor, non-critical issues identified.
THE SOLUTION
Greencastle planned and executed a full cloud contact center disaster recovery validation, coordinating stakeholders, testing integrations, and confirming operational readiness across failover and failback events.
Benefits
- Validated Business Continuity
Confirmed that core contact center operations, including call handling and customer interactions, remained functional during failover and failback. - Improved Production Readiness
Validated key platform integrations across both data centers, identifying only minor, non-critical issues and strengthening confidence in DR readiness. - Strengthened DR Governance
Created a structured runbook, issue log, escalation process, and lessons-learned plan to improve future disaster recovery execution.
APPROACH
Disaster Recovery Planning & Runbook Development
Greencastle developed a structured disaster recovery runbook that documented test objectives, step-by-step execution activities, assigned testers and validators, success criteria, and required evidence. The test was organized around three validation gates: pre-failover baseline, post-failover secondary-site validation, and post-failback return-to-primary validation.
Cross-Functional Test Execution
Greencastle coordinated live execution through a centralized bridge, managing sequencing, checkpoints, confirmations, and escalation paths across IT, business, vendor, and contact center teams. The test validated functionality across telephony, CCaaS, IVR/IVA, authentication, customer systems, payment processing, workforce management, reporting, APIs, file transfer, chatbot/web channels, and agent environments.
Issue Management & Lessons Learned
During execution, Greencastle maintained a centralized issue log, triaged issues in real time, and routed items to the appropriate SMEs for resolution and validation. The lessons-learned process produced actionable improvements, including clearer failover ownership, optimized timing, queue-handling procedures, earlier test-data readiness, and formalized notification and escalation processes.
CONCLUSION
Greencastle helped the client validate disaster recovery readiness for a cloud contact center platform supporting critical customer interactions. By developing the runbook, coordinating more than 25 stakeholders, validating 15+ integrations, and managing live failover and failback execution, the team confirmed that core operations remained functional across primary and secondary environments. The engagement strengthened production confidence, surfaced only minor non-critical issues, and produced a clear improvement roadmap for future DR events, UAT activities, system validations, and contact center deployment or cutover efforts.
